Okay, maybe I am a little bit different from most people, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. For instance, I like going to the Lebanon dump and taking care of my own trash and recyclables. Why?? A couple reasons, for one, it is way less expensive then hiring a local trash hauler to do it for you. It cost me about $5-$7.00/month to do it myself instead of the $35-$40.00 it cost to have someone pick up your trash. It also keeps me connected to the world; I see where my trash and recyclables go which makes me think about it. For instance everyone wants to be a good citizen of the planet these days and recycle, but what happens to the stuff after you sort it and it is put on the truck? Right now it is just piling up at the landfill because there is no market for metals, glass and paper in our poor economy. I’ll know things have truly turned around economically when I see those piles go away. It also has provided me a great education about how to correctly deal with my trash. The guys at the dump are always a pleasure to talk with and very informative regarding the proper way to dispose of various items from electronics, paints or hazardous chemicals.
