Events in the Upper Valley “The Tunbridge World’s Fair”
Ok folks, it is that time of year again – time for the Tunbridge Worlds Fair!! If you have not been, you don’t know what you are missing. This fair is set in one of the most beautiful valleys in Vermont in the small town of Tunbridge. If you’re an adult be sure to visit the beer tent, it is an unforgettable experience. Big mean men keep the crowd in line and make sure no one takes any pictures. Trust me, I tried to take a couple photos and the big mean guy convinced me it was in my best interest not to…… If you’re going with the family, the fair has all the usual rides, food, races, horse pulls and agricultural displays that are great entertainment for all ages. One of my favorite memories is of happening upon a group of elderly Vermonters in the bandstand late one afternoon who were just hanging out playing old time music. One person would start off a song, another would start up playing the spoons, next somebody would chime in on a jug, washboard, guitar, banjo or whatever they had handy. It was something to see authentic Vermont music being played by a group of folks in their golden years using anything they had around to play a tune. Another must do is the Ferris Wheel, the view from the top at night is nothing short of spectacular. If you are looking for something to do this weekend, give the fair a try, you won’t be disappointed.
From the Hanover area, take 89 North to the Sharon exit to Rt. 14 North. After about 5 miles on Rt. 14 you will see Rt. 110 on your left as you enter S. Royalton, take 110 until you see all the chaos in Tunbridge, you won’t be able to miss the Fair. And bring a few extra bucks to give to the local volunteer fire department, they will be in the road looking for you to help fund their department.
