UPPER VALLEY EATS! THE NORWICH PUB

With family here from the desert southwest, we decided to take them to the Norwich Inn last Tuesday evening for dinner. With the Republican debate scheduled for that evening in Hanover NH we were pleasantly surprised to find a large table available in the Pub.

The Norwich Inn has a brewery to serve the restaurant and the locals, my brother in-law and I enjoyed a few pints of the signature brew – Whistling Pig Red Ale. The service was great and the food was all well prepared, I had the ribs done in a beer sauce and smoked in house – they were excellent. Lean, smokey and with a sticky beer BBQ sauce, I’ll be back for more another day. The fish special was Striped Bass, always a great tasting fish when caught on the New England coast and brought to your plate. The Filet was also exceptional, clearly the Chef at the Inn knows how to buy, prepare and serve great food.

Leaf Peeping in the Upper Valley!

With sunny warm days becoming increasingly rare this time of year, you need to take advantage of them when you can. My friend Norm and I were able to take Columbus Day off, hop on our motorcycles and head out on a foliage ride. We enjoyed the scenery along Crystal Lake in Enfield and then took rt. 4A through Wilmot and ended up at the Flying Goose Brew Pub in New London NH for lunch.

With it’s great selection of small batch brewed beers and ales on tap, the Flying Goose is a great place to enjoy fresh brewed beer and great pub food. I had a pint of one of their seasonal offerings, the Full Blown Homegrown Ale made with hops grown in their backyard. It was a very tasty brew and was particularly appreciated as we enjoyed the chicken tenders in buffalo sauce, if you like hot sauce – these are well worth trying.

With great food, 17 fresh brewed beers on tap and some great live music on Thursday nights the Flying Goose is one of those places that make the Upper Valley a great place to live.

The “Goodbye Irene” Cabaret Concert – Woodstock Town Hall

On Sunday the 18th at 4:00 pm the Pentangle Arts Council in Woodstock VT will sponsor a benefit concert headlining AEROSMITH’S JOE PERRY. This should prove to be a historic event.

It is free admission, for all ages, and includes a free will contribution!
100% of the proceeds go to the Woodstock VT Area Flood Relief Fund of Sustainable Woodstock,.

Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society Animal Camp

Hey parents are your kids getting bored as we are now in the dog days of summer. Why don’t you send them to the Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society Animal Camp in West Winsor Vermont? This week long adventure will teach your kids how to care for animals in a humane way. They will learn the importance of housing, feeding, and training of dogs, cats, goats, rabbits, and even chickens. The next class will start Monday July 18 and run through the 22^nd. The final class of the summer will run from August 1^st through the 5^th. Classes start at 9am and end at noon. The classes are open to children 6 – 10 years of age. There will be snacks and water provided. So get the kids off the couch and send them over to the humane society to learn how to properly care for pets.

Quechee Balloon Festival

Trying to figure out what to do for Father’s Day? Why don’t you head over to the Quechee Hot Air Balloon Festival. This Upper Valley event is in its 31^st year and features activities for the entire family. There will be balloon rides, wine and beer tasting, craft artisans and vendors, and live music. Activities for the kiddos include train rides, face painting, inflatable climbing wall, and bungee jumping. Balloon flights will take place on Friday at 6pm, Saturday and Sunday at 6am and then again at 6pm, weather permitting. Prices for the event are $12 for adults, children 6-12 are $5 and children under 6 are free. Dad’s who are accompanied by a child get in for half price on Sunday. The Quechee Balloon Festival is a great event every year, so be sure to check it out.

Memorial Day Weekend in the Upper Valley

We wanted to wish everyone a happy Memorial Day. It’s starting to feel a bit like summer in the Upper Valley. Warm temps, farmers markets, everything is green or blooming, towns are buzzing with activity. I think we can all agree that this truly is a wonderful place to call home. Dartmouth Pow Wow This Weekend

The 39^th annual Dartmouth Pow Wow will be this weekend, May 7^th and 8^th on the Dartmouth College Green in Hanover. The grand entry will take place at noon on both Saturday and Sunday with contests and events taking place into the early evening. The Pow Wow will feature tribes from all over the country and allow residents of the Upper Valley the opportunity to participate in the culture and traditions of these great tribes.

The Pow Wow is FREE for everyone, so be sure to bring the little ones and enjoy this wonderful family event.

Free Home Buyer Seminar in Lebanon

The New Hampshire Housing Finance Authority will be hosting a FREE Home Buyer’s Seminar this week. This two part seminar will be held on Tuesday April 19th and Thursday April 21st from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm each night. The goal of this event is to provide buyers with the information needed to be fully prepared when buying a home. If you are thinking about buying your first home I strongly recommend you attend this seminar. There will be speakers providing valuable information in a variety of fields such as home financing, law, home inspections, and real estate. Housing Solutions own Lynne Labombard will be the speaking about the role of a real estate agent. The event will be held at SCORE Upper Valley located at 20 West Park Street, Room 316 in Lebanon.
